Eight out of eight for Ridgway School dancers

Sep 12th, 2008 | By | Category: Latest News

RIDGWAY Primary School children have demonstrated to their parents how they danced their way to eight out of eight excellence awards at the regional J-Rock stage challenge.

The dancers put on a special repeat performance of the show that gave them so much success at the J-Rock stage challenge at the end of term 2.

Road safety for school children was the theme of the performance, choreographed by teachers Rachel Hughes and Sarah Clark, with help from some of the Year 8 children.

“That’s our best year,” says Ms Clark.

The awards of excellence were for costuming character, visual enhancement, soundtrack, performance skill, choreography, set, design and function, concept and stage use.

Logan Archibald, 12, says it was fun and exciting: “I learnt heaps of dancing with the students and the teachers.”

Sarah-Louise Crawford, 13: “It took one week to make this blue fish.”

It was not just dance on display for the parents. The results of their efforts during the art intensive week filled several rooms. The displays included paintings, mosaics, clay sculptures, papier mache and masks.

The week allows students to focus on art projects for an extended period of time.
