TOMORROW night will be full of victories and disappointments, but the Mana candidates are making sure their tummies are full, too. Read about their “Last Supper” meals with HINANO ANDREWS:
Either comfort eating or celebratory eating, the Mana election candidates will be eating, drinking and rejoicing this weekend as the election results come in.
Current Mana Labour MP Winnie Laban plans on celebrating with her campaign team as they watch the results on a big screen.
“There will be plenty of food, Island style, lots of laughs, a few speeches, and good fun for friends and family – whatever the result,” she says.
The “other woman” standing in the Mana electorate, National’s Hekia Parata, will be enjoying a delicacy from her Ngati Porou roots.
“East Coast crayfish, new potatoes, and salad,” says Mrs Parata.
Pacific Island party candidate Timothy Manu’s mum will have her hands full with cooking a traditional Island feed: “Mayonnaise, pork and chop suey. Mum makes the best chop suey. Period.”
Meanwhile, Green candidate Richard Gilchrist will be firing up his backyard smoker.
“I have this thing about salmon. I will smoke some at home. It always makes me happy to smoke some salmon.”
United Future candidate Robin Gunston will be sticking to the good ole’ Kiwi classic barbeque: “BBQ whether we win or lose with the United Future Wellington team.”
Hopefully, none of the Mana candidates will be forced to eat humble pie for dessert, as Mr Gilchrist said: “ With MMP, everyone is a winner.”
