Election billboards are ‘political litter’

KELBURN resident Barbara Mitcalfe was so incensed by the sight of political billboards covering Wellington’s green spaces, she wrote to the Dominion Post to complain.

Not only do such hoardings get buffeted by Wellington’s world-famous winds, but she believes they are an invitation to vandals and graffiti artists.

She says political hoardings are “political litter”, which she would like to see replaced with the planting of native shrubs or trees, because “they help us breathe”.

Mrs Mitcalfe has received phone calls of support from friends and strangers for her letter to the editor, “Oust hoardings with natives”.
