Vodafone boosts our election reporting

Nov 7th, 2008 | By Jim Tucker | Category: Latest News, News

WHAT’S the best way to learn how to be a journo?

Cover an election, say 27 students and four tutors at Whitireia Journalism School.

We’ve had a big team out over the past couple of weeks and they’re written nearly 100 stories, taken pictures, shot video, recorded audio. NewsWire has been changing its content constantly, with three new lead stories posted each day over the past week.

As Luke Appleby and Aaron Caskey – our leading technician-students – say, reporting such a big event isn’t easy, but it helps when you have the right equipment.

Using the latest 3G technology provided by Baha Mabruk(pictured above) of First Mobile, Newtown (  http://http://www.007mobile.co.nz/ ), the journalism school in Cuba St has been able to operate like a fully functional news room.

Mobile internet will be crucial tomorrow, with students scattered across the country sending back text, images and video to be edited and published.
