MiniMainTHE CLASSIC Mini has turned 50 this year, and to celebrate the 2009 New Zealand Mini Nationals will be held on the Kapiti Coast at Labour weekend.

Up to 100 cars are expected to attend the meet, pitting drivers against each other in various events.

The October 23-25 event will include a “show’n’shine”, navigation trial, motorkhana, autocross and economy run.

The person with the highest overall points tally from all events will be crowned winner of the weekend.

A more “social touch” will be brought to the nationals this year, says Kapiti Coast Minis president Graham Strang (above).59-09

“We want to involve families and kids more than previously. We’ll have activities for them to do during the events.

“You don’t have to be a member of a club to come to the nationals,” says Mr Strang. “You just have to have a Mini, old or new”

In England, the 50th anniversary celebration at Silverstone attracted more than 10,000 Minis from about 40 different countries.

About 2500 cars took part in UK’s annual London to Brighton Mini event.

Entry forms for the Kapiti Coast event can be found at the club website.
