Carmen’s back in town for birthday glamour bash
Sep 1st, 2009 | By Janice Ikiua | Category: Arts/Entertainment, Front Page Layout, Latest NewsTHE outfit is bright, but perhaps not as revealing as it would be in Carmen fashion – showing a lot of cleavage.
It seems as the diva has toned it down.
Carmen is back in town from Sydney to celebrate her 73rd birthday with friend Jevan Goulter, who is turning 21.
Their birthday show tonight, An evening of glamour, promises to be a night of glitz in true Carmen style, with hunky topless waiters serving drinks.
Carmen has come a long way from the days as a young Maori lad called Trevor Rupe from Taumarunui, becoming NZ’s first household-name transsexual – as well as a prostitute, entertainer, night club owner, military training conscript, councillor and candidate for the Wellington mayoralty.
Carmen says during her running for mayor of Wellington in 1977 she got a call from multi-millionaire Bob Jones, who asked if she needed any help
“I did and he let me ride around in a nice white limousine. One would be crazy to give up that offer”
Carmen said she would be willing to leave Sydney and come back to New Zealand – if there was a multi-billionaire who was available: “Unfortunately Sir Bob Jones is already taken.”

Good to see that she has left a very memorable impression upon us all; both in NZ & Aust. I have known her since 1969 when we first met in Wellington which is now 40 yrs ago & we now both live in Sydney !!!
