Wellington citizens positive about city slogan

WELLINGTON residents seem absolutely, positively happy with their city’s slogan.

A recent NewsWire street poll showed most were happy with the phrase “Absolutely Positively Wellington”.

Among ten suggestions from the NewsWire team, “Wellington – It’s pretty sweet” and “Wellington – Bring a kite” proved the most popular, with “Wellington – It’s not Auckland” following closely behind.

Hawke’s Bay has recently changed its brand from “Hawke’s Bay Wine Country” to “Hawke’s Bay – everything under the sun,” to appeal more to those uninterested in drinking.

Wellington City Council spokesman Richard MacLean says there are no plans to change or modify the current slogan.

“Absolutely Positively Wellington” was developed in 1990 by Saatchi and Saatchi Wellington on behalf of Wellington Newspapers Ltd to restore confidence in the region after heavy job losses in the state sector throughout the 1980s.
