CLOWN FOR A DAY: Principal Janice Shramka, with pupil Hamish Priddle.

KARORI West Normal School principal Janice Shramka exchanged business attire for a clown suit to promote the fun of the fair earlier this month.

Families were treated to a variety of food and activities for a cheerful way to spend a Saturday morning at the school’s annual fair, which grossed $20,000.

Funds raised will be spent on improving sports facilities within the school.

Second-hand clothes, toys, Hell’s Pizza, sweets and activities such as a bouncy castle and a merry-go- round were just a few of the novelties present.

Parent Jake Lovell and Mike Brady, husband of teacher Janice Jones, were running a coconut shy.

Children were given soft balls to throw at three coconuts and if they won got the grand prize… a coconut.

Mr Lovell said: “It’s a good laugh… and good fun for them.”

Civil Defence was present spreading the word on what to do in an emergency by offering cotton bags full of pamphlets.

Jane Campbell, Civil Defence volunteer, said it was a great turnout.

The final sum raised is still being finalised, says the school in its latest newsletter.
