FITNESS fans can now take a spin on a bike or swivel their hips on the dance floor in the same studio in Newtown.

Capital Spin is the idea of Georgina Workman, 38, and incorporates both indoor cycling, known as spin, as well as dance classes.

Miss Workman has swapped a life as full-time IT project manager and part-time sports trainer to full-time spin instructor because of her passion for the fitness regime.

“It’s an efficient way of working out, you get cardio, strength, and a core workout as well as being fantastic for general health and wellbeing,” she says.

And it’s an alternative to dodging potholes, avoiding traffic and the Wellington wind which outdoor cyclists put up with.

There are two types of spin classes, with the ‘moped’ sessions suitable for beginners, and total spin sessions for spin junkies.

Once people have started, she says, they will want to come again.

“Spin is addictive because after a 50 minute total workout, people just feel fantastic.”

The same can be said about Zumba, which is dance to Latin American music.

“It’s heaps of fun, and it’s amazing how a few hip movements can double as an abs workout,” she says.

The studio has eight spin instructors and two dance instructors, and the beauty of the classes is that people can work at their own level, says Miss Workman.

Instructors use their own music and choreography, and by doing so impart their enthusiasm to the class. Miss Workman’s objective is to get people having fun in doing what she loves to do.

There are no membership fees, each class is paid for separately, and classes are run throughout the week.

Other information

Timetable, prices and booking information can be found on the website:

The studio can be found at 220 Riddiford Street, Newtown.
