ballMAIN 1A TUXEDO and shiny dance shoes aren’t Fenn Langbein’s usual approach to being a volunteer fireman.

He and Mel Troy are dressed up in front of the Plimmerton Fire Brigade’s brand new fire engine to get a message across – they need funds.

Fenn, Mel and Mel’s husband Ben Troy are part of a fund-raising effort to replace the brigade’s operational support van.

The  brigade will hold its bi-annual ball in November this year, with proceeds going towards the $26,000 needed for the new vehicle.

Senior Station Officer Dave Anderson, who joined the brigade in 1981, says they have already raised $5000.

“Our current van is just getting old and clunky,” he says.

Costing $56 a ticket, the ball is being held at the Plimmerton School hall, which holds up to  250 people.
