THE names of 20 health and community groups who will deliver the Government’s new $134 million Whanau Ora programme were to be announced today.
Details will be released at Porirua’s Takapuwahia Marae by Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia, (right)who will be the minister in charge of the initiative.
The 20 organisations – chosen from 130 proposals – will work with agencies at government and regional level.
Designed to provide services and opportunities to New Zealand families in need, Whanau Ora will by run by Te Puni Kokiri and aims to make health and social services more accessible for families.
The $134 million will be allocated over the next four years, during which the providers will work with whanau rather than individuals.
Mrs Turia says the programme is a significant investment in whanau by the Government.
“I am excited that this innovative approach has generated so much interest in its first few months of implementation.”
