Reporting Pike River media minefield

Nov 29th, 2010 | By | Category: Front Page Layout, Latest News, News

Mine 8Mine 35WHITIREIA journalism student Greg Ford captured what went on behind the news media barrage that has hit Greymouth during the Pike River mine disaster.

His photographs show some faces familiar to New Zealand television news audiences, but also the extent of the equipment and support crews needed to cover a major news event.

He recorded some of the scenes at local evening daily newspaper the Greymouth Evening Star.

His moving photographs show media heavy hitters orchestrating their news teams, people like TV3 head of current affairs Mark Jennings, and Fairfax NZ group editor John Crowley.

Some of the pictures are shown here, but most are in the Flickr Slide Show below (note: two pictures were taken by Nicole Bennik).
