SHAKEN NOT STIRRED: Four King's general manager Jeordie Craib wants to do all he can to help quake victims.

WELLINGTON bars are showing their support for Cantabrians by organising fundraisers and broadcasting news channels around the clock.

St John’s bar, on the waterfront, tweeted today that it will donate $1 from every drink sold to a Christchurch relief fund.

Hotel Bristol on Cuba St has been playing television news to patrons since news of the quake broke on Tuesday.

General manager Kushla Mathie says that she is originally from Christchurch, and although her family and friends are safe, she wants to keep everyone updated.

“People want to be able to get on with it but feel a bit lost with not knowing what’s going on, they want to be kept in the loop,” she says.

So far she has had no complaints from customers about trading the regular sports channel for news channels, she says.

“People would be more annoyed if we didn’t have it on.”

The bar plans to have a fundraiser at the weekend.

Four Kings bar in the city centre has also been playing news channels to customers.

General manager Jeordie Craib says it has definitely “dampened” the mood in the bar, especially on Tuesday when they also had sound playing.

The bar is organising a quiz night with National Bank to fundraise for those affected by the earthquake.
