THE ARO Valley Community Centre is having a $110,000 facelift.

The community centre is being earthquake strengthened and completely made over with a new Tasmanian Oak floor.

Contractors have been busy since January this year, and would usually have done the work over a period of three years but the Council has decided to do it all in three months.

“We get to start with something that looks fresh and practical and won’t date easily,” says Ms Beaeson.

There are two phases to the Aro Valley project – the construction phase finished last week and the interior decorating will take place over the next three weeks.

Construction included repiling under the floor, a new ramp for wheelchair access and stairs at the front of the building.

During the renovations most of the groups which use the centre have relocated to other facilities such as Toi Poneke and the Tanera Bowling Club.

The centre’s temporary office is in the adjacent Citizen’s Advice Bureau building.

The centre’s contents are being stored in the Aro Storage building.
