THE capital is on sale this Sunday as local attractions open their doors for a dollar.

Wellington Open Day is designed for people who live in the capital to get a better understanding of what tourist attractions their city has to offer.

The day is a build-up to the Rugby World Cup giving locals a visitors’ view to enable them to become better hosts.

For a gold coin donation Wellingtonians will be able to gain entry from 10am to 5pm to many local attractions.

They include, Zealandia, Carter Observatory, John’s Hop On Hop Off City Bus Tour, the Seal Coast Safari tour, The Reserve Bank, Motel bar, Downstage Theatre, Wellington Zoo, and more listed on website.

The City Gallery taking tours through their current exhibition Tender is the Night, at 11am and 2pm.

The exhibition explores themes of love, loss, desire and everything in between, says Thomasin Sleigh, the City Galley’s Marketing Manager.

All money raised from the day will be donated to the Wellington Night Shelter.

During the cup the City Gallery will be joining with Te Papa with respective exhibitions Oceania and Early Encounters.

“It will be a massive collaboration showcasing art from the region.

“The exhibitions celebrate local art and explore what it means to live in the Pacific with examples of colonial, pre-colonial and contemporary art”.

They will be held as part of the Real NZ Festival, running from August 6 to November 6.
