WORLD of Wearable Arts-inspired designs will feature in a Whitireia student fashion show later this month.

The famous Wellington WOW show has been used by tutors to inspire first-year textiles students to produce outfits that will be modelled by other students from the polytech and secondary schools.

One of the models is Courtenay Scott-Hill, who came fourth on NZ’s Next Top Model, and who is keen for more experience.

Aotea College student Gaby Peach, 17, (above) decided to audition for fun, but is keen to do more if modelling leads somewhere for her.

The show will include work by second-year students, who were given a theme of “light and heavy”.

“It’s their pathway,” says senior textiles tutor Deb Donnelly (right). “It’s a chance to learn from their own experience.”

All the students are keen, she says, especially the second-years, who were having another go. They often looked back at what they had done and how to improve on it.

The show will be staged on July 21 and 22 at Whitireia’s  new Performance Centre in Vivian St, with the theme of Emerging talents in NZ Eco Fashion and Body Adornment.

NewsWire was at one of the auditions at Whitireia’s Porirua campus to see what goes into putting a fashion show together.

ASPIRING MODELS: Ashalea Walker, who is looking forward to giving it a go, with Tyree Gunn, in it for fun.
