RWC collectors’ item proves popular

Oct 26th, 2011 | By | Category: Front Page Layout, Latest News, News, Uncategorized

SPECIAL collectors’ stamp sheets to celebrate New Zealand winning the Rugby World Cup released yesterday sold thousands in the first day.

In additon to strong sales in at main centres there has been exceptionally heavy demand on the New Zealand Post stamp website, says New Zealand Post’s external communications manager John Tolloch.

Head of New Zealand Post’s stamps and coins Ivor Masters says there is significant interest in the products since their release online on Monday.

A similar product was made after New Zealand’s America’s Cup win in 1995 was very popular, although it didn’t have the printing urgency as the All Blacks stamp sheet, which went to print moments after their win, he says.

“After the victory we cranked up the presses and printed right through the night so New Zealanders can celebrate this victory with a limited edition collectors’ stamp sheet.”

The RWC 2011 champions sheet shows a portrait of the team moments after their win with the final score printed below. Surrounding the picture are six official All Black stamps.

It is something special that people can keep as a memento to hang up, as it is designed to be framed, or send to relatives overseas.

The champions stamp sheets retail at $19.90 and can be purchased in New Zealand PostShops or ordered online.

Also available is New Zealand’s first 3D stamp that shows the Webb Ellis Cup, an official coin portraying that, and two All Blacks coins.
