PETER DUNNE has acknowledged Winston Peter’s help in putting him in a potentially more powerful position for his tenth term in Parliament.

NZ First’s resurgence will add a political dynamic, says Mr Dunne, who beat Labour’s Charles Chauvel for the seat of Ohariu.

He says although he is surprised NZ First is back, he is looking forward to his role in a new Government.

“Playing my role in administration is now more significant,” he says.

“In a funny way it has helped me.”

The results for Ohariu were as expected, but it’s another thing achieving it, says Mr Dunne.

“I am delighted, happy and relieved.”

The main goal for this term will be to start implementing a 10-point plan that has been a big part of United Future’s campaign.

One of the most important and biggest goals from the plan is to ensure Transmission Gully is completed, he says.

Future plans for Ohariu are to develop programmes, to help young people at risk and to create an integrated fulltime emergency base in the Northern Suburbs.

There are plans for a little break before beginning a busy schedule, although details are not confirmed just yet, he says.

Peter Dunne won the electorate seat with 13,228 votes.

Charles Chauvel fell short with only 11,582 votes.
