LINDEN Scout Hall is to be demolished despite a taekwon-do Club pleading with Wellington City Council for another solution.

A Tawa Community Board report states that the Linden Scout Hall, pictured, is run down and the cost in saving the building are to steep.

One of the three users and main advocate for saving the hall, North Wellington ITF Taekwon-Do instructor Nick Lee, disagrees that the building should be pulled down.

Nick says when he inquired about fundraising money to refurbish the place he got a sense from the council that it would not change its mind.

“They would rather plant grass then allow us to produce something.”

Manager of parks and gardens Paul Andrews responded to Nick’s proposal saying due to low-level use of the hall the council still intend to demolish in the 2011-2012 financial year.

He says the club is welcome to propose another idea and that the council will consider it.

The council has also offered to help find another facility in their area.

The council is only offering six-monthly contracts and Nick says they make it hard for the club to expand with the uncertainty of being asked to leave.

“It’s a catch 22.”

The club will be given one month’s notice to vacate the hall once a date for demolition has been determined.

Nick is still deciding if he is going to start a new proposal or to look for a new facility.

The club has not yet received its one month notice.
