FUDGE FRIENDS: Anabell Rigby, Shaniya Allan and Katie Foxall are off to Cambodia thanks to fudge.

A TRIP to Cambodia has Anabell Rigby hard at work making and selling fudge to raise the $7500 needed.

Anabell (14), a student at Aotea College, is part of a 13-strong group taking part in a scheme run by World Challenge.

The trip is student-led, with budgeting and fundraising up to the individual.

It came about after World Challenge visited Aotea College with a presentation.

The company offers expedition programmes to schools around the world that focus on education outside of young people’s comfort zones and personal development.

The trip will last a month and pupils will help out at an orphanage and trek in Cambodia among other activities.

“Fundraising is going well and everyone’s close,” says Anabell.

As part of the fundraising Ms Rigby had a stall at Lower Hutt’s Aging Disgracefully Expo selling fudge.

She had friends and family helping out at the stand.

The fudge idea came about after a Facebook page found a big demand locally for fundraising fudge.

With a bit of baking help from her dad, Ms Rigby will be able to go on the trip at the end of the year.

She will leave a day before her 15th birthday, and the group includes with one teacher and two World Challenge guides.

A lot of hard work has gone into preparing for the trip.

“During training for the trip we were evacuated from our tents when the weather bomb hit,” says Anabell.

The effort will hopefully pay off for Anabell who has also had a few sausage sizzles to help with funding.
