Director Mike Wallis (35) and Lead Actress Inge Rademyer (29) say that production for the feature took many twists and turns that they weren’t predicting.

“Expectations would’ve been restrictive, we always stayed open to new things,” says Mr Wallis, who also wrote and produced the film.

The film received rave reviews during its March release in the United States, and is the first self-funded New Zealand film to be released in American theatres.

“People who aren’t even western fans like it,” says Ms Rademyer, who played the lead character of ‘Isabella’.

“It’s received a strong female response, because there are other elements thrown in too.”

‘Good for Nothing’ grossed $97,081 in its first fortnight across 53 cinemas nationwide and has moved up in the national box office charts to number eight.

The directors are now setting their sights on new horizons.  They are selling screening rights in Latin America and hope for releases in Europe and Australia.

“We want it to go as far and wide as possible,” says Mr Wallis.

The film has been already accepted for the ‘Red Box’ rental kiosks in the United States, in which only 12 individual films a year are accepted for.
