Pamper party sees school kids benched

Sep 6th, 2012 | By | Category: Latest News, News

ENTERPRISING Paraparaumu mums have been multi-tasking by raising funds for school benches while spoiling themselves and other women.

St Patrick’s school supporters raised $800 indulging in hot rock massages, manicures, high-fashion shoes and other luxuries.

Organiser Adele Brooks-Baker has helped with fundraising in the past, but nothing on the scale of the pamper party.

She says she is overwhelmed by the support and offers of free goods and services businesses and individuals gave her.

“I got on the internet and websites and people just responded,” she says. “Even from as far away as Auckland.”

Adele is quick to thank her fellow coordinator, Nicola Ryan, and Support our Kids committee members who put in a lot of time and effort to make the day a success.

“It wouldn’t have happened without everyone’s help,” she says.

The whole concept began with committee chairman Leonor White’s trip to the UK.

She had attended a pamper day where tickets were presold and the attendees booked appointments for a range of services.

“It means that the women can come for as long as they like and it makes it easier for babysitting,” says Leonor.

Young mother Marie Lemmon won two raffle prizes and had a free make up consultation.

“It’s a nice day to pamper yourself and help the school at the same time,” she says.

Another mum, Megan Dickie, is grateful for the opportunity to take a minute for herself’.

“It’s been great on a rainy day, and we get goodie bags,’ she says.

Spotting a pair of Minx shoes, right, she liked, Elise McGlinchey shouted herself an early birthday present.

“The tickets for today were just $25 dollars, so it was really good value, and the hot rocks massage was yummy,’ she says.

Adele and Leonor say they are keen to hold more such events in the future, only bigger, and are even considering a pamper day specifically for men.
