Hutt views sought on alcohol consumption

Nov 20th, 2012 | By | Category: Radio News

HUTT VALLEY residents are being asked for their views on whether there should be fewer liquor stores in neighbourhoods and whether bars and clubs should close earlier.

Lower and Upper Hutt Councils are currently running a valley wide survey that asks for people’s views on alcohol consumption and availability in their communities.

The mayor of Lower Hutt, Ray Wallace, says the Alcohol reform bill which is currently before parliament will give local authorities the ability to determine the number, location and hours of operation for licenced premises.

He says this is an opportunity for the community to have their say on how alcohol affects them and what stance council should take on the issue.

Surveys are available at libraries and on council websites.
