A LION and a kiwi have been spotted giving out treats to young Warehouse customers, as part of a campaign to raise money for Wellington Children’s hospital.

For the third year running, Warehouse stores in Blenheim, Motueka, Nelson and Wellington are raising funds for the Wellington Children’s Hospital.

“We are most appreciative of the wonderful support that The Warehouse Wellington region stores have shown us over the years,” Shona Brunton, fundraising co-ordinator for the hospital said.

Customers are able to donate to the hospital by adding a dollar to their purchase, or by buying a Hospi Lion soft toy for $10, with all proceeds going to the hospital.

This year’s campaign had exceeded expectations and the hospital was delighted with the level of support from the wider Wellington community, Ms Brunton  said.

The promotion ran for four weeks and will end on July 28.hospiMAIN 3

So far over $57,500 has been raised, well over the original target of $54,000.

“Overall it has been a huge success and the best result we have had in the three campaigns we have done for the children’s hospital,” Tere Maden, store manager for the Paraparaumu Warehouse said.

Stores have been creative with their support – Porirua had a bouncy castle in store, and Paraparaumu held a screening of the animated movie Epic which 110 people attended.

“This is a great campaign and a great fit for us as a region, supporting young families and their children,” Mr Maden said.

Wellington Children’s Hospital always welcomes support from the community, especially after the recent theft of their donation box, and there are many ways people can help out.

After the campaign is over, people can still donate money through the hospital’s website, by mail, or call into the office in Newtown.

Donations of toys, books, DVDs, games and craft supplies in good condition are also appreciated.

Wellington Children’s hospital opened its doors in 1912, and has treated thousands of New Zealand children.
