READY FOR ACTION: Scouts having outdoor adventures

TRIVIA gurus of all ages are invited to a quiz night next Friday to help Newlands Scouts fund their way to the 20th Scouts Jamboree.

The evening begins at 7.30pm and tickets are $10 each, or $40 for a group of four.  The $10 entry also puts people in the running for spot prizes.

There will also be a raffle, with local donations as prizes.

Quiz night proceeds will go towards sending Scouts to the Jamboree at the end of the year and to first aid courses, says Newlands Scouts leader Debbie Balloch.

The fee for the 10-day Jamboree is $720 per Scout, and Ms Balloch says only two Newlands Scouts went last year.

“We have 10 this year who are planning to go, so two-thirds of the troop want to go, and we’ll try to get them there.”

At this year’s Jamboree held in Feilding from December 28, Kiwi Scouts as well as Scouts from all around the world meet for 10 days of outdoors adventure.

The Newlands Scouts’ Quiz Night will be held at the Johnsonville Club; 1 Norman Lane, Johnsonville, and there will be door sales.

You can contact Debbie Balloch to register your team on 027 451 4280.
