PHOTO ESSAY: Surf-lifesavers take over Ohope

Mar 13th, 2014 | By | Category: Editor's Picks, Picture story, Sport, Top Picture

LAST weekend hundreds of Surf Lifesavers from around the country descended upon Ohope Beach for an annual display of life saving skills, athleticism and club strength.

With over 800 competitors and more than 15 different disciplines, the Surf Nationals are three days of constant action and lifeguards battle for medals and club positioning.

Each discipline is derived from life saving techniques with all athletes required to complete at least 20 hours of beach patrols at their local club.

This year the award of top club went to the Mount Maunganui.
