Hundreds join Wellington march against violence

Sep 15th, 2014 | By | Category: Radio News

MORE than 500 people marched on Parliament today, hoping to put violence against women and children in the forefront of voters’ minds ahead of Saturday’s election.

The nationwide ‘March to change New Zealand’s Shame’ was organised by groups dealing with domestic violence.

When the marchers arrived at parliament, hundreds of shoes were placed on the steps in memory of the victims of domestic violence.

Heather Henare, head of Women’s Refuge says people want the government to take violence seriously.
