A promise to give prisoners back the right to vote

Sep 10th, 2014 | By | Category: Radio News

LABOUR is promising prisoners will have the right to vote re-established before the 2017 election.

Arthur Taylor an inmate at Auckland Prison took the government to court today in a bid to gain prisoner voting rights before the current election.

Labour Party Corrections spokesperson Jacinda Ardern says they would change the law back to what it was before 2010, when prisoners due for release within 3 years were able to vote.

She says they should have a say about who’s in power after they’re released.
