Kaka cause problems in the Botanical Gardens

Oct 20th, 2014 | By | Category: Radio News

ZEALANDIA’S success has proved a headache for Wellington’s Botanic Gardens.

The Karori bird sanctuary has helped re-introduce Kaka to the Wellington region, resulting in the birds attacking trees in the nearbygardens.

Manager David Sole says Kaka are stripping  the bark off trees introduced from the northern hemisphere to access the sap underneath.

He says while it is a good thing the Kaka are thriving, it’s sad the history represented by the damaged trees will be lost.
