INTERNATIONALLY  acclaimed local artist Jane Kellahan is holding an auction of her most recent work in Wellington on 21 November.

Jane has called the collection to be sold at the auction Release.

Fifteen vibrant paintings in greens, orange-pinks, neutral earthy tones and reds will go under the hammer.

The pictures focus on animals, land and waterscapes.

Jane says the collection represents her love of uncaged animals moving and acting freely in their natural environments.

The reserves range from around $500 to $7000

Some of the works are large enough to cover a small wall.

In 2011, Jane was New Zealand’s entry into the Chianciano Biennale in Italy, where she came third in the ‘works on paper’ category.

The multi-award winning artist is New Zealand’s only entry in the London Biennale in January 2015.

She was also the winner of the 2009 prestigious Cricket Art Prize in Australia and made the top 5 selection in 2011.

Jane is now making the final arrangements for her entry in the London exhibition early next year where over 100 artists from around 40 countries will be exhibiting.

“My work is called The Great Escape. It focuses on two of the central issues facing environmentalists today – shrinking habitats for indigenous species and the risk of extinction”, says Jane.

The dramatic painting features a chimpanzee covering its head in despair, an eagle hitch-hiking on the back of a white swan and an elephant reaching out for help.

Jane hopes she will win in her category this time.

She says “I have a lot of confidence with this particular piece. Not only does the large size make an impact, the subject matter is extremely thought provoking and something I feel very strongly and passionate about”.

The huge painting dwarfs Jane’s studio and will need specialized shipping to the UK.

The auction will be held on Friday November 21 , 6.30pm, at the Gazley French Showroom on Cambridge Terrace.

More than 200 people are expected to attend.
