THE Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club, more commonly known as the Cossie Club, will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Saturday June 13.

The club, originally founded in 1954 was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 2003.

It re-opened in 2005 and has been thriving ever since.

The members-only club caters to all demographics.

It’s currently the third largest club in New Zealand with a 7,700 members, the majority of who are local.

Club Manager Dean Candy says most people living in Upper Hutt have links to the exclusive club.

“As you’d imagine most of them actually live in Upper Hutt, so most households know at least someone in the club,” Mr Candy says.

He has been managing the club for 16 years.

The majority of club members are over 40 but Dean Candy says it’s also a family friendly club.

“We have lots of activities on, promotions where we give away money and other different sort of things, so it encompasses a wide variety of activities for families etc.”

Across the road, Club member and managing director of Mitsubishi Motors Upper Hutt, Colin Gething, says the Cossie Club is not only a good place to be but it’s also good for business.

“The Cossie club stages national events all the time, they’ve had two major events this week hosting national competitions and that brings a lot of people to town and thousands and thousands of dollars,” Colin Gething says.

The Cossie clubs facilities are state of the art and are more than capable of hosting all types of functions such as weddings and 21sts, with five different function rooms to choose form.

The 10 year celebrations will include a mid-winter Xmas buffet and special-guest bands providing live music.

The party is open to everyone but those who are not members must be signed in by a member.
