Consensus on the street – NZ should take another 1000 refugees

Sep 7th, 2015 | By | Category: Lead Story

LISTEN: PRIME MINISTER John Key will this afternoon announce the government’s response to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Europe.

Germany is currently bearing the brunt of the crisis with thousands of refugees crossing its borders, and Chancellor Angela Merkel is calling for other countries to step up and help.

New Zealand currently takes 750 refugees per year.

General consensus on the streets of Wellington this morning is that New Zealand can afford to take an extra 1000 Syrian refugees.
