New Zealand’s war dead honoured daily

Sep 16th, 2015 | By | Category: Editor's Picks, Lead Radio Story

NEW ZEALAND’S war dead are being remembered every night at 5pm in a Last Post ceremony at Wellington’s Pukeahu War Memorial Park.

The trumpet has been sounded every night since the end of WW1 in commemorative ceremonies in Ypres, Belgium and this is the first time it’s being applied in this way here.

The Last Post was used to guide soldiers to safety after a day’s battle.

Captain Wayne Small says it’s a big undertaking and it’s an honour to be part of it.
