Porirua youths unite to clean up stream

A GROUP of about 40 keen people braved strong winds and rain on Saturday morning to learn about their local stream and help clean it up.
Students from Titahi Bay North school collected water samples from the Kahotea Stream which runs alongside Porirua’s Onepoto Park.
Zoe Studd of Healthy Harbours Porirua says the group discovered the park full of invasive weeds, rubbish, freshwater snails and worms, a sign that the stream is unhealthy.
She says the clean up is another component of getting the community together to help restore the harbour.
