Shock rugby result good news all round for Japan

Sep 22nd, 2015 | By | Category: Radio News, Sport

JAPAN’S shock win over South Africa in the Rugby World Cup has given the sport a much needed boost in popularity back home.

Japan stunned the world by beating the Springboks 34-32 in a thrilling encounter in Brighton.

Japan is due to host the 2019 Rugby World Cup but enthusiasm for the sport in that country has been slipping in recent years.

He says rugby often fails to make the sports pages of local newspapers, losing out to the more popular baseball and soccer.
