ABOUT 250 people helped launch the new Vista Club in Paraparaumu – a merger of the RSA and the Kapiti Club.

The unveiling was done by Mayor Ross Church and the Governor General The Right Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae.

Mayor Ross Church called it a great solution for both clubs.

“This is a very special day,” he said.

“It is a good example of how people on the Kapiti Coast could come up with solutions to a challenge and work well together in our region.”

Previous RSA president Mr Chris Turver said the merge of Paraparaumu RSA and the Kapiti Club had been a challenging few months. “But we got there.”

The two organisations joined forces as a result of financial difficulties and change.

They will be sharing premises at the previous Kapiti Club on Marine Parade.

The RSA building in Amohia Street will be sold.

The rebrand of the clubs formed part of the merging process. The new club now operates under a memorandum of understanding and a deed of trust.

Local businessman Mike Olsen was part of the working committee which implemented the new look and name.

“It was hard to do (the rebrand) on a shoestring budget,” Mr Olsen told the crowd.

Members from both clubs said they were pleased with the amalgamation.

“Not sure about the name though,” said one member, who did not want to be named.
