A Victoria University mathematician is looking forward to taking his studies to a whole new level after receiving 300 thousand dollar scholarship.

The Woolf Fischer scholarship allows Liam Jolliffe to head off to the University of Cambridge to do a PhD in pure mathematics and mathematical statistics.

The former Wairarapa College student says his interest in maths and physics at high school is what drove him to continue the subjects at university.

After passing five scholarship exams at high school and winning multiple awards  at Victoria, Liam is now focused on his future at the prestigious English university.
