Party ties create accountability

A Wellington city councillor says his party affiliation means constituents know exactly where he stands.

Brian Dawson is one of four Labour party candidates elected to the council over the weekend, including incoming Mayor Justin Lester.

He says the Labour councillors can work well with independents, despite mayoral candidate Nick Leggett saying party affiliations aren’t constructive.

Brian Dawson disagrees, saying his Labour affiliation makes him more accountable.
