Perceptions of inequality imported from overseas

Perceptions of rising inequality in New Zealand may be incorrectly influenced by overseas concerns, according to a top academic.

New Zealand Initiative senior fellow Dr Bryce Wilkinson co-authored a report on inequality released last week.

The report says while income inequality has stayed level over the last 20 years, public perception and media reports of inequality have risen.

Dr. Wilkinson says New Zealanders may be influenced by concerns in countries with higher levels of inequality.
