Spending taxpayer dollars for a laugh

A grant from a fund run by local and central government will be helping unearth the comedy stars of the future.

The Humorous Arts Trust is one of several Wellington arts projects sharing in more than $65,000 handed out by the Creative Communities Funding Scheme.

The trust has been given $2,250 to run the Wellington heats of the Raw Comedy Quest*, which has been won by Wellington comedians two years running.

2004 Raw Comedy Quest winner Jerome Chandrahasen says it has helped launch the careers of several comedians.
