Betting agencies expecting to break records

Nov 1st, 2016 | By | Category: Radio News

Eager racegoers have been pouring into Melbourne’s  Flemington Racecourse since 10.30 this morning

The Melbourne Cup race that stops two nations is set to jump for the 156th time at five oclock this afternoon.

Betting agencies here and across the Tasman are reporting  a huge influx in betting.

By the time the totes close it’s expected punters will be placing  3,000 bets per second  generating a record $100 million Australian dollars for the Australian betting agencies.

There were some anxious faces  around midday  when agency Betfair Australia experienced a full outage due to  a technical issue which stopped punters from placing bets for more than two hours.

Three Kiwi horses will challenge 21 horses from all around the world to win the $6.2 million Australian dollars up for grabs.

The weather in Melbourne is a little on the chilly side at  16 degrees with a 50/50 chance of rain during the big race.
