Trump’s policies tipped to push up inflation

Jan 19th, 2017 | By | Category: Lead Story

Kiwis are speculating about the impact the Donald trump presidency will have on New Zealand.

Senior Lecturer of Politics at Victoria University, Jon Johansson, says many of Trump’s foreign policies remain uncertain.

But there are fears Trump’s planned trillion dollars worth of infrastructure spending, and additional tax cuts, will have an international flow-on effect.

“Where the rubber hits the road is the impact on interest rates. If inflation becomes a world-wide phenomenon again, then New Zealand is not going to be exempt from that.” Dr Johnasson says.

The i5th US President was sworn in on Saturday morning New Zealand time.
