WATCH: Free fluro and fun at Wellington’s Go By Bike Day

Feb 10th, 2017 | By | Category: Featured Article

Queens Warf was full of fluorescent jackets and shorts as cyclists rolled-up to the City Council’s Go By Bike Day breakfast.

Free bagels, smoothies, and coffees were available alongside biking advice, fix-ups, and advocates groups.

Minister of Transport Simon Bridges complemented Wellington for leading the way in the uptake of cycling.

He says the government’s Urban Cycleways Programme, which invests in projects to make safer biking spaces in cities, is the right thing to do and should continue.

Mayor Justin Lester emphasised the safety improvements for cycling in Wellington, including a shared pathway in Tawa, works underway on Hutt road, and planned improvements from the eastern suburbs into the city.

“We’re going to make sure that Wellington is a much safer place for you to get into town on your bikes,” he says.

Go By Bike Day events will also be held in Porirua on Friday 10 February, and in Lower Hutt on Wednesday 15 February.

Te Papa is also hosting Go Home by Bike Day on Wednesday 15 February, from 5pm-7pm with a sausage sizzle and beer bike.
