Labour mood in Wellington hopeful

Sep 23rd, 2017 | By | Category: Front Page Layout, Latest News, News

The mood at the Wharewaka is bouyant as the Wellington Labour Party faithful maintain hope for change despite National holding a stubborn 10% lead in early counting.

The faithful mingle with MPs Grant Robertson (Wellington Central), Greg O’Connor (Ohariu), Kris Faafoi (Mana) and Ginny Anderson (Hutt South) as the results come in.

Another major player is Mayor Justin Lester, who turned up tonight to watch his deputy Paul Eagle take on the Rongotai electorate.

The Wharewaka is buzzing as Labour paints Wellington red.

The safe seats of Wellington Central and Rongotai appear to be returning to Labour, with Greg O’Conner looking to take Ōhāriu as well.

The MPs are all already here, as well as former party leader Andrew Little.

The room is split as in appraisal of the overall party results, with some staying hopeful for a Labour government at the end of a few weeks of negotiations.

Others, meanwhile, are prepared to pack in it and say they’ll do it in three years.

Everyone agrees that this is not a place they expected to be as little as seven weeks ago, and there is no doubt that they are proud of their party’s leader Jacinda Ardern and what she has achieved.
