Policy trumps personality – just – among voters spoken to at a Mt Victoria candidates meeting in Wellington.

Newswire poses the question “How important is personality in your preffered Prime Minister?” at the meeting organised by the Mt Victoria Residents Association.

People generally viewed personality as secondary to policy, while acknowledging the importance of personality.

The surge in support causing Labour to overtake National in the polls has widely been credited to ‘Jacindamania’ or the ‘Jacinda Effect’.

The ‘Jacinda Effect’ is based on the idea that swing voters view personality as more important than policy.

Labour is up six points to 43% of the vote, according to the latest One News Colmar Brunton Poll.

National has dropped below Labour to 39%.

There has been a surge of support for Jacinda Ardern as Prime Minister at 35%, up 1% from the last poll.

Prime Minister Bill English, dropped two points from 31%.
