WATCH: 606 Shoes – talking about New Zealand’s suicide story

Lines of 606 pairs of shoes were placed on Parliament’s lawn on Sunday in a poignant memorial.

The display organised by Yes We Care NZ highlighted the now up to 606 pairs of shoes representing the Kiwis who have killed themselves in the past year.

The group which organised the event to coincide Suicide Awareness Day are demanding action – a full mental health inquiry.

They’re also demanding an end to the stigma on the subject, and for New Zealanders to have more open and honest discussion on the topic.
