WATCH: Te Reo marches down Lambton Quay

Kapa haka and singing filled Lambton Quay, Monday, as an estimated 5,000 people marched to commemorate Te Reo.

The march, organised by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (The Māori language comission) kicks off the Māori language week celebrations in Wellington.

Accompanied by fire engines and decorated floats, the parade ended at civic square for Kai and Korero.

The catchphrase for Maori Language week 2017 is “Kia Ora Te-Reo.” Meaning ‘Let the Māori language live.’
