Green light for Site 9 development

Commercial development on a site on Wellington’s popular waterfront was given the green light this morning by the Wellington City Council.

Councillors voted on the development at todays’ City Strategy Committee meeting.

The meeting featured debate both for and against approving the development, including input from Waterfront Watch president Victor Davies.

Those opposing the development wanted the waterfront developed as a public space.

Councillor Iona Pannett who voted against the development progressing says the waterfront belongs to the public.

Victor Davies from Waterfront Watch says he wanted the current proposal adjusted.

Mayor Justin Lester who supports the development says the waterfront needs a balance of public spaces and commercial developments.

The final vote had 12 votes for and 2 against the development.
