Hopes are high for new ministerial portfolio

One of the features of the new Cabinet is the addition of a Crown/Māori Relations portfolio.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the role recognises New Zealand’s transition to a post-Treaty settlement environment.

Kelvin Davis takes on the job of working with iwi Māori and Māori organisations. .

Prominent Māori constitutional lawyer Moana Jackson says he has high hopes for the new portfolio.

The government is also focusing on finalising the Ngāpuhi Treaty settlement, with Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Andrew Little leading the process.
