Altruism movement welcomes Wellington branch

Mar 14th, 2018 | By | Category: Latest News

Those with a penchant for the philanthropic are welcoming the Wellington arrival of Effective Altruism.

Based largely on the views of moral philosopher Peter Singer, Effective Altruism is a global movement that focuses on evaluating the most effective ways to benefit others.

The Wellington branch’s co-founder Shakked Noy says charitability is an important focus of the movement.

Shakked Noy says one way Effective Altruism differs from other philanthropic organisations is its selective attitude towards charities.

Effective Altruism has had a national branch in New Zealand for a few years, but until now there has been no presence in Wellington.

Shakked Noy intends for the Wellington branch to increase awareness of the movement.

Effective Altruism Wellington is celebrating its launch at 6pm on Thursday 15th of March, at Victoria University’s Hunter Lounge bar.
